plastic food containers

Plastic food containers have a very important role in preserving and protecting our food. Their use is prevalent in our homes, schools and workplaces. But did you know that those containers can have an adverse impact on both the environment and our health? Plastic food containers are what we are going to discover today: we should know them, we will say if they are convenient, how do they affect our planet, if there could be health problems, what can we use instead of them and what do we have to do when recycling these containers.

Some types of shower cap are pretty handy and convenient to use. They are light, to say they are not hard to carry around. At home, you can keep all sorts of food in their fridge, or when you take lunch to school or work. They come in all different shapes and sizes, so you can select one that fits your food just right. You could also have a handy snack-sized container and then one large one for leftovers. The other great thing about plastic containers is that they are generally clear so that you can see exactly what food is inside without needing to open it. This is fast to make sure you get it immediately especially when you are on time.

The environmental impact of plastic food containers

But, as handy as plastic food containers are, they're also a huge environmental problem. One of the problems with plastic is that it does not decompose easily. When we dispose of plastic containers and products for example, they end up in the landfills, where they can remain and not decompose for hundreds of years. This is unhealthy for our world as it shows that we are cluttering our land with trash which is never going to perish. Moreover, plastic can be harmful to animals. Plastic is sometimes confused with food by many animals, such as birds and fish. If they eat it, it can injure or kill them. What’s more, plastic can flow into our oceans, creating pollution that damages sea life and poisons the very water that we all depend on.

Plastic Food Containers Can Also Be An Environmental Hazard, Not Just Toxins Some types of plastic can leach harmful chemicals into the food we keep in them. One such chemical of concern is Bisphenol A (BPA) which is used to create some kind of plastic. BPA can leach into our food and drinks, and it could disrupt how our bodies function, especially our hormones. This can be particularly damaging for young children, whose bodies are still developing. When storing our meals in plastic food containers, we have to take those risks into consideration.
